Dedicated to the speech needs of children.
To improve the language skills of children and teens, quality, frequent, and consistent speech therapy is needed. Undoubtedly there is no substitute for talented Speech Pathologists and Therapists who improve the quality of life, and the futures, of the children they assist. However, there is a shortage of resources in schools and the lack of availability of speech professionals. Which is especially felt in rural communities, and are barriers for providing children and teens with speech impairments the support they need. For this reason, Tech 4 Talk, in conjunction with speech professionals, strives to provide technological tools to supplement and reinforce speech therapy for children and teens.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports that the employment of Speech Language Pathologists is projected to grow 18% from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average of all occupations (July 2, 2018 ).
The American Speech-Language Hearing Association indicates that critical shortages of special education teachers and related services personnel, including Speech Language Pathologists, exist in all rural regions of the country. These critical shortages impede the ability of students with disabilities to reach their full academic, social, and emotional potential (1997-2019 ) .
Why Technology Tools
There is no substitute for a speech professional. Their work is invaluable. However, due to their lack of availability, they must serve numerous children and teens with speech impairments, and often at multiple schools. Which leave speech professionals with very little spare time to provide the additional reinforcement needed to sustain language improvement. Which understandably is an even greater challenge for speech professionals in rural communities.
Through the supplementation of services with iPads and speech applications that were created by professionals in the field, speech professionals can better serve the needs of their many children and teens with speech impairments in a more efficient, consistent, and enriching manner.
